AOE II was one of my favorites to play, has always been great and worked really smooth. Now with the new African Kingdoms I was excited to play with a few new races, even if I had to pay 10$ for it. The game has now become COMPLETELY UNPLAYABLE with Windows 7:-Farmers STOP working for NO reason.. They stand there idle instead-Farms expire and the villagers are no where to be seen-Game crashes and refuses to relaunch..-Game stalls when launching multiplayer-New lag in multiplayer playing on LAN-Game causes steam to stop responding-Idle villager button doesnt work-Glitchy interface when starting multiplater game-Says steam servers are over capactiy-Map Editor causes game to crash..TLDR; I payed $10 for an overpriced DLC, and now the game is ruined... I like this expansion and it's civilizations for its random map application. The four new civilizations are quite unique from one to another, and the new maps they added are quite fun.My only problem is that I don't like how detailed the campaigns are. I know this sounds like a really stupid complaint, but I find that these campaigns are far too detailed in their terrain design. It becomes a mess to look at because the creators thought to put in trees and rocks here and there so it'd look more realistic. In that manner, the campaign is perfectly done.However, because either everything's so tightly knit together, your units have difficulty moving from A to B. Case and point: In the first Berber mission, you have to attack an army across shallow water. Unfortunately, my cavalry had difficulty crossing the shallows because the creator put in little pot holes in the water to portray deeper parts of the water. Cool in design, but annoying to navigate through.I found that the original campaigns were simpler and focused more on the game rather than the design. Almost every campaign level in AoK and The Conquerors basically had one or two lines of dialogue explaining your situation, a starting base with a decent supply of resources around you, and an obvious objective to achieve. There were clear paths to go from point A to B, and the odd secondary path you could take to accomplish an optional goal.What I mean to say is, less is more.. Great Expansion! Better than the Forgotten Expansion in general.+ Balanced new civs, within fairly reasonable historical context+ Added unit/technology to open up Siege, Defence and Naval battles+ New campaigns for the history/story-inclined players- Bugs, crashes and lag associated with new patch and expansion that are yet to be resolved at the time of writing- Generally underwhelming new game mode and maps- Possible problem with running on Windows 7. With African Kingdoms, AOE2 now contains 27 civlizations with 9 styles (8 + Indian official mod), doubled from its original release. This staggering diversity gave rise to a sense of completion: ancient civilizations from all over the world is represented in this game, and they are each unique and fun to play with. This DLC is simply a must have for anyone who loves AOE2.. Awesome expansion. Adds alot of great stuff, balances things, new Civs are awesome. Some large bugs but many have been fixed and the rest will be fixed soon im sure.
